I had a wonderful Valentine’s day. Smashing even, if you will.

So yeah, Vday’s over; I know. But lately I have been working so hard for the money (so hard for it honey) that I haven’t had the time to keep updating as much as I need to on this delightful blog. (Why are you so demanding, blogging?)

Anyway, back to my Vday play by play.

In the morning I was greeted by my lovely husband who is a really nice fellow. A really nice fellow with good taste too, I might add. He gave me the best surprise ever when I opened up a gift he had picked out himself (albeit for me *hinting* at it about a year ago when we were in a massive Australian department store, think our version of Nordstrom’s, called David Jones one day.)

And it was….

IMG_4588 IMG_4576

Seriously dude, can it get any better? All my favourite things in one, ostrich, Marc Jacobs and pink. And you can convert it to a shoulder bag with the strap and also a clutch.

I thanked Craig profusely for this gift and gave him his in return. His gift? Since he is notoriously hard to buy for, un-materialistic (opposites do indeed attract) and not into fashion, was some casual shirts from Jay Jays, and his favourite AFL (Australian Football League) team’s – Geelong- playing cards, to take him back to his 12 year old playing-card collecting days.

Great little wrapping and taping job of his present (done last minute!)

Virtual Valentines card posted on Facebook to Craig

One of Craig’s gifts – Geelong AFL football team playing cards

I thought it was a pretty unimpressive gift, but he was impressed with my thoughtfullness at acknowledging his football obsession. I have been to a few games and enjoy watching football more in person, but on the TV I do nag him to change the channel. So this made the gift all the more good in his eyes.

Our beloved cat, Barbie even got some Valentine’s love. (She is after all my one true love.) I bought her this totally creepy puppet toy from The Reject Store for $3 AUD, a discount Australian store (below Walmart, I think.) My childhood cat that lives with my parents, Richie never really played with toys, only one teddy bear he used to bite when he was younger and bottle cap rings and boxes. Barbie on the other hand actually plays with toys and was entertained for hours with this one, as you can see below.

To top the night off, for the first time in years, we decided to go on a romantic date to a fancy expensive restaurant called Fenton’s in Ipswich, Australia.

I kept up my thrifty ways by shopping my closet to find a nice festive pink dress and red spiked heels which I hadn’t even worn.

This pink heart-print dress is by Target and was actually found in the juniors section (shhh.) Another one of my secrets for cheaper clothing and great styles is to shop the juniors section where you can find quirky, cute prints and styles and save a lot of $$!

Pink heart-print dress, $20 AUD

At only $20 AUD, I thought it was a steal and must have bought it by osmosis on the subconscious knowledge that it would be perfect in 2 years time for such a special occasion as this. (My thought patterns sometimes, make sense.)

I paired it with my $20 AUD red spike heels (which look comfy but looks can be deceiving,) bought eons ago on Ebay. I have one real pair of pink Christian Louboutins which have been sadly lost in our move (why couldn’t I have lost something less valuable???) I have always wanted his red spike or red stud heels but alas, can’t afford at the moment. So I thought these puppies were a good option to get the look for less.

Red spike heels, $20 AUD

IMG_4611 IMG_4610

The new Marc Jacobs!

I also grabbed my $2 AUD each gold glitter cuffs, bought on Ebay to add some glitz to the outfit. These are made in the style of Dorothy Perkins cuffs and Armani Exchange. Not bad for some designer look bling!

Gold glitter cuffs, bought in every style by me (as they are the same style as Armani Exchange and Dorothy Perkins)
$2 AUD each,

Betsey Johnson oversized red heart ring, $25 AUD

My much-loved but never worn red heart Betsey Johnson ring, bought for $25 AUD from the States on Ebay years ago was also finally used. Although never worn, the centre heart had actually come unglued and dropped when I tried it on after purchasing. Heartbroken for a second, my Dad quickly fixed it with some super glue as all handy Dads do, and it was good as new save for a few noticeable cracks. Oh well, just a reminder of my Dad! (I have long been obsessed with Betsey Johnson and her jewellery as well as everything else. I have a lot of her jewellery and none of it has come apart either thankfully!)

My earrings, although I forgot to take a pic (sad face) were also Betsey Johnson handbag and dress dangle earrings. I will add a pic in later!

TOTAL OUTFIT COST (excluding the lovely Marc Jacobs handbag) = $70 AUD

Fenton’s is actually the only nice restaurant Ipswich (where we live,) has to offer, and it was amazing. I didn’t even know it existed! We will have to save it for future special occasions though as with my thrifty ways I’m not too keen on spending heaps on restaurants *all the time*. (I’d rather clothes, then whinge to Craig about why I don’t have anywhere to go out and wear them …. it is a vicious cycle that I acknowledge and accept.)

We enjoyed Fenton’s great food with a candlelit dinner and some wine while chatting about our usual topics, reality TV – including Mob Wives and the Real Housewives of everything; work, and ridiculous small-talk.  Our seats were outside in a dimmed alleyway (doesn’t sound great does it but it was very nice.)

Romantic night out

Craig no-likey photos at dinner or anywhere very much!

Zooey, my girl crush wearing a Rachel Antonoff Zooey Heart Dress ($396 AUD) on SNL. Zooey can do no wrong, which is why this cute dress was named after her! Who else can don a quirky heart print as well as her?

How was your Valentines day?

What did you do?

What gifts did you give/receive?

What are some thrifty Vday tips you have?

Are you a fan of heart-print?

I have a lot of polka dots, probably one in every colour, but there are still so many variations and other colours to be enjoyed too.

More no-spend-$$-at-all days have been introduced into my saving-more life lately. This means further digging into the closet to make use of previous items not worn at all, or worn too much. And then mixing and matching with what I already have (which kind of frequently pops up on this kind of economy-style blog.)

So anyhow, I grabbed this grey mix polka dot and floral print chiffon top bought for $5AUD on sale back in the day from a small boutique on the Gold Coast (my hometown), Queensland Australia. Oh Gold Coast, with your sunny breezy weather, great beaches, nightlife and restaurants and actually stuff to do compared to my new small-town with no restaurants/beach etc etc….

how I miss you so.

Location dreams and crises aside, I quickly mustered the acceptance that my new life is getting started in this small town to pave way for greater, bigger things in the future; and finished dressing myself. I furthermore grabbed my go-to red summer shorts, bought for $10AUD from a cheap department store called Big W here, (kind of like a cheaper Target) owned by the grocery chain Woolworths. They really have surprisingly good basics that nobody would know it ever came from there!

My new $10 AUD quilted pleather camel sneakers paired off the casual Thursday look, are so comfy and look like designer ones for a fraction of the price!

I had gone shopping with my best friend Ally, my spiritual also lover-of-pop-culture and style friend (who has a music/popculture blog you should check out here at about a year ago on the GC at one of our favourite Australian stores, Sportsgirl. The store has been going strong since the 80’s with my mum shopping there when she was younger (and she still does from time to time.) This is the it place for fashion, shoes, accessories and even beauty in Australia.

On our trip, I picked up a few sale items on their jewellery rack (Sportsgirl has THE best sale items racks, particularly the jewel part.) One of them was this cute blue and yellow with rhinestones little glam necklace, bought for $7.95AUD. I had saved it for an upcoming event but changed my mind and wore some chunkier jewels. This is the perfect piece to dress up an every-day cas outfit with a little glam though, don’t you think?

I was also so pumped 2 days ago when I received my Chanel eyeglasses frames I had ordered from London in the mail for a steal at $160 AUD! I had been waiting for Chanel frames (an update from my dark brown stoic Wayne Coopers) for a very long time and decided on these tweed purple frames with quilting and the Chanel logo on the sides. These babies will never be taken off of me.

IMG_4560IMG_4562 IMG_4564 IMG_4565 IMG_4566 IMG_4568 IMG_4567 IMG_4569

I got a bit too snap-happy. I blame the power of Chanel.

TOTAL OUTFIT COST (excluding Chanel frames) = $32.95 AUD

TOTAL OUTFIT COST (including Chanel frames) = $192.95 *Still not that bad, right???* <— What I will undoubtedly tell my husband who is not quite so into fashion, accessories and shiny things.

What do you pair them with?

Do you mix them up with more feminine pieces like polka dots to take the edge off?

Ah, blogging. I really do love you. It’s a beautiful escape from my day to day life, a place where all the pretty shiny things in my closet and head can become one on this page.

But sadly, I have begun to neglect you. I’m sorry. Sometimes, when I get home from work I say to myself “just one blog, it will only take 20 minutes. Then you can relax and watch the crazy Love and Carla have at it in Mob Wives Season 3.” But, despite my best intentions, I end up watching Mob Wives post-less; and only blog a few posts (to catch up) every 2-3 days.

I look at other blogs who blog daily and am in awe. They must love it more than me, have more thoughts/fashion/resources and to put on there than me, and resources to make daily blogging happen (i.e. the $$$ baby.) So, I have made it a vow to try to force myself to be more creative, mix and match more outfits and blog a bit more often (maybe even daily, if I don’t run out of outfits/ideas/inspiration to blog!)

Anyway, back to the point of this belated post – to show my purchases from last week.

Dedicated to saving $$ for a trip later on in the year, I am only allowed to spend on items either pre-owned (from thrift stores) or true true wants that I have thought about for a few days and are reasonable in price.

Last weeks purchases, although not second-hand, were indeed reasonable and things I’ll get a lot of leverage out of in the future:

Dior Beaute cosmetic bag (which will be used as a clutch,)
Gold and silver chunky snake collar necklaces,
$2AUD each,

Adding to my Dior obsession is this grey quilted Dior Beaute cosmetic bag (which I will use as a clutch for dinners out,) bought for $50 AUD on Ebay. I have watched it for a while and thought it will just get ruined with my makeup, so why not stick a phone, credit card and makeup in it for a night on the town?

New jewellery additions = these gold and silver chunky snake necklaces, total cost = $4 AUD from Ebay once again. In dire need of new jewellery (because actually, I don’t have a lot and am sick of all of mine) these will top up any outfit for a low low cost per wear.

Awesome yellow cat-print blouse,

My favourite purchase for a long time has been this amazing, slightly garish yellow cat print blouse. My love for cats, prints, chiffon and yellow brights all together in one! A bargain steal for $12.98 from, this will be on me with a black leather skirt on a night out in the unforeseen future.

Black turban
(Finally have the courage to rock one of these when I go to a wedding next)

Fashion risk of the week = this black turban (not really risky at only $1.95 AUD from where else but Ebay. A long admirer of the turban look spotted on the likes of Kourtney Kardashian, I was wary of it because I thought I had no place to wear it. But, with a friend’s wedding the husby and I are attending in May, I figure this will look major on top of loose curls, worn with my favourite dress ever, a vintage Marni Skillings gold metallic maxi dress. (Pics to come in May on this blog!) Anyone who doesn’t like it should just get over themselves.

Now I want every colour – blue, red, white and pink. At only $1.95, I’m sure I will purchase some more in the future.

Okay, so a lot of my purchases come from Ebay, you have noticed throughout this blog. That’s because at a quarter of the price of normal stores, the online mecca is my go-to for discounted real designer goods, and bargain clothes from overseas, where nobody else in Australia will own them.

I’m also (believe it or not) sometimes not much of an in-brick-store shopper. (Apart from thrift shopping, which I love.) Sometimes, I’ve noticed as I get older too, I don’t have the patience for it and really have to be in the mood to browse through racks all day. When I get home from work, I can browse unique finds at my own pace on the couch while watching Mob Wives for a fraction of the price, all delivered to me, and it’s pretty awesome. My love for online shopping takes precedence and may never die.

Okay, so it could have been less, but I need some enjoyment in my life! I think getting a few cheaper options on Ebay to update my wardrobe was the smart way to go to have a little fun while saving some moolah.

I think another cool $300 AUD into my savings account is a pretty good effort this week. Hello future travels, you are coming closer!

How much do you usually spend on fashion/beauty finds each week?

Do you have a set budget for your buys? If so, how much is it usually for?

Do you ever go over this budget? How much usually by?

What did you buy last week?

Leave us some deets in the comments below.

So…. I secretly love Hello Kitty.

I have admitted it.

Although not a fanatic, at age 25 I do own a few Hello Kitty items.

  1. Sanrio limited edition Hello Kitty handbags
  2. Tokidoki x Hello Kitty handbags
  3. Hello Kitty Kiss Jewellery and a T-shirt, (the best!)
  4. Hello Kitty for Mac lip gloss
  5. Hello Kitty bubblegum perfume spray
  6. A Hello Kitty “I Love You” Doll Craig got for me for Valentine’s Day when we first started going out (so sweet.)
  7. Hello kitty jewellery box
  8. Hello Kitty x Forever 21 Limited Edition Chococat shirt, shorts, Hello Kitty jacket and skirt
  9. Hello Kitty x Samantha Thavasa handbags
  10. Hello Kitty umbrella from TruffleShuffle

Only a few right? (probably not counting a few other items I may have forgotten.)

Since originating from cartoon company Sanrio in 1974, Hello Kitty has ensured that cuteness and normalcy has never been the same. Much of the world has become curiously obsessed with the adorable cat and her myriad of cute friends in the decades since her introduction.

One of my favourite blogs is Hello Kitty Junkie, where a girl has the most vast Hello Kitty collection I have ever seen. Although I’m not quite that into HK, I do love to see what random cute items she posts and her pure dedication to Sanrio and all things kawaii. Definitely a must to check out!

I furthermore, always have a laugh when I check out Hello Kitty Hell, a website that a husband created out of pure disdain for how far Hello Kitty has gone throughout pop culture and the world. Having to deal with a Hello Kitty-obsessed wife, this was his outlet for commentary on ridiculous products made featuring the cat. (Examples – Hello Kitty car engines, Hello Kitty houses, Hello Kitty Sea Cruises and many many more.)

My dream destination is Japan. My brother came bag with a Hello Kitty tote bag for me and told me just how intense the love for the kawaii cat is there, and the 3-storey Hello Kitty stores choc full of random cuteness. One day!

So anyway, to my outfit today – I was feeling quite peppy this morning, (which is slightly unusual for me..) and randomly grabbed a few items like my Cotton On Floral Skater Skirt ($5 AUD,) Vintage Sportsgirl yellow cropped top ($24.95 AUD,) and my Hello Kitty purple handbag ($30 AUD, to reflect my mood.

Sanrio Purple Glitter Hello Kitty Bag, $30 AUD

 IMG_4538  IMG_4538

I made use of my floral hair clip, bought years ago from the markets for $5 AUD.

Finishing the outfit are my go-to pink jelly sandals, from Jay Jays for a bargain $5 AUD. (My jelly obsession knows no end.)

Here is Barbie, my kitten, clearly not amused with my outfit.

Paris, lover of Hello Kitty and all things Kawaii. Wish I had her discretionary fundage to blow money on kawaii items.

Okay, so this is an older pic of when RiRi was starting out, but even the tough-sexy girl has donned HK. Too cute!
HK inspired Brit Brit to “Do Something” in her music vid. No lie, this is a decadent piece of HK jewellery history – with its eyes made of onyx, 9 carat in diamonds and with a price tag of 5.5 million yen. I have a similar necklace, price tag = $20 AUD.
Lady Gaga on her Hello Kitty throne. I have a T-shirt of this I bought when Gaga first came out. I will wear it for vintage nostalgic cool
Still gaga over HK
Katy Perry, lover of all things kitsch including Hello Kitty
Bethenny Frankel in a Hello Kitty getup… I think for Halloween? Loved Bethenny on Real Housewives of New York City, before we learned of her true character on Bethenny Ever After, etc etc.

Heidi Klum wowing in a black crystal Hello Kitty face dress… I need this

Kimora-Lee was one of the first celebs to start a Hello Kitty line. Her decadent diamond Hello Kitty creations are lusted after by me, although sadly I would never be able to afford the real deal. (Similar Cubic zirconia or diamonte versions on Ebay are for me instead.)

images-61 images-60 images-59

Cue my excitement when it was announced that my go-to for slightly-expensive, can’t-live-without-makeup line Mac was making a Hello Kitty makeup line! I own an eyeshadow kit, lip gloss, and brush kit from the line. The colours (although pretty much the same with any line from Mac) were great and the lip gloss was amazing.

Swarovski = the land of sparkly dreams. Swarovski has long been a lover of Hello Kitty, producing anything cute including crystal figurines (collector’s items and pretty exxy though,) handbags, and most of all jewellery. WANT!

Another kawaii Japanese designer line, Nina Mew’s collections are so cute but unfortunately, way out of my price range.

(I do need this Hello Kitty handbag and boots!)

Tokidoki has long been a collaborator with Sanrio for their Hello Kitty x Tokidoki line. I have a few items from their vast collections but always need more. Including key chains, wallets, purses, figurines and more, the Japanese line has everything cute under the sun.

Need this bag!

I don’t really even have to introduce this Tarina Tarantino Hello Kitty line, because I’m sure you’re all well aware of its existence. Not withstanding, I still need every product listed here and more.

images-79 Unknown-36

Liberty, a well-loved UK label, has collaborated with Hello Kitty on amazing stationery, handbags, accessories and homewares such as bedding. I still need to buy the Hello Kitty quilt set and cushions to adorn my room!

Hello Kitty vans are amazing. They come in adults sizes as well as matching baby sizes! Adorable

Unknown-37 Unknown-38

Need the ones on the left and the pink ones on the right (second pic)

and most of all… my favourite

What kawaii cuteness hasn’t Samantha Thavasa introduced in her cute as but way overpriced designer line? A long fan of the Japanese designer line, I have a few Hello Kitty x Samantha Thavasa handbags and one in her signature Samantha Thavasa logo print in my closet that I am obsessed with, but also haven’t used much because I don’t want to ruin them (weird, right?)

My baby right here.. just waiting for an awesome event to go to

The Samantha Thavasa line has also got a wide range of limited edition Disney handbags, wallets and accessories too. Love!

While many more designers and brands have also gotten in on HK, I have decided to leave it here for now.

To cute-ify your wardrobe, check out the Hello Kitty fashion finds below, you cute thing you.

One of the best (and heartbreaking) Simpsons episodes ever created: when Lisa declines Ralph’s sweet “I Choo-Choo-Choose You” Valentines Day Card.

Now I know you wouldn’t be so heartless as Lisa originally was to Ralph to your secret admirer/or others this Valentines Day, you sensitive soul you!

The day that is either hate/love for most, V Day gets either really out-of-proportion or shut down altogether.

Do you go all out for your Valentine’s Day, spending major dough on an amazing gift and dinner out? Or do you prefer a more laidback low-key VDay, full of more thrift and thought?

Either way you roll, lovely possibilities of Valentines Day gifts (big and small) have been compiled here in a neat little bow for you so you can tailor it to your VDay needs:

£189.00 JBWatches

Polished and a little bit different with its standout royal blue face, this is the watch I would definitely buy my husband if he were more of a watch-wearer. (He barely wanted to wear his wedding ring because he’s a no-frills-or-watches kinda simpleton guy.)

Calvin Klein  Purple Patterned Silk Slim Tie $39.95, The Mens Shop

This Calvin Klein tie is an unexpected tie gift with its deep purple shade and pattern. Even though he may not purchase it for himself in real life, he will secretly appreciate the push to colour you give him with this tie. (Expertise = from buying my husband salmon and pink business shirts, coloured ties galore to get him out of his black white and navy-wearing self. Although he says he would never buy it personally, he loves all the colour I bring to his life and rewears his gifts constantly!)

My fave: Concert Tickets to his favourite band

Who says you have to use your Valentines Day gift straight away? Why not give the gift of an awesome concert experience on Valentines Day and wait a little bit?

For a headliner such as Queens Of the Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails in Brisbane, he will love this present.

Magnetic bottle opener, shaped in different sports balls such as golf and soccer = genius in a guy’s eyes. Likely to be a big smash at home football events; everyone will thank you whenever they open their drinks with novel ease.

$9.95 AUD, Getprice

POA, Dior

Look at Marion Cottilard slay with this beautiful, ombre gradiated from yellow to orange Dior Lady handbag I have been lusting after ever since my eyes first saw its glory. Okay, so this present may break your Valentines piggy bank 4560 times over (and slightly more,) but it is worth every penny.

Oh how I lust after you, Tarina Tarantino Crystal Pave heart necklaces. With a myriad of pretty colours to choose from such as pink, purple, blue, green and every other colour under the sun, one day these will all be mine.

(The rainbow one above is a hint to get started, dear husband!)

$150 USD, TarinaTarantino

She will be thanking you for this adorable Moschino heart and chain print scarf, guaranteed to be a winner cherry-topper to every outfit. $180 USD, Farfetch

$13.76 AUD

This cute little vintage heart photo frame holder is the kind my mum used to have in the 70’s. This would look so cute on a dressing or vanity table with photos of you lovebirds adorning it.

These Candy Heart Earrings by Betsey Johnson, $30 AUD, = the cutest thing ever.

Betsey and her craziness always fares well in designing her cute, girly, quirky and romantic pieces.

-Rent out/buy his favourite movies and have a movie night of all the action movies you actually love as well (you can also have a night full of your choices next time – Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The First Wives Club anyone?)

– Tear up paper into strips and on each piece write memories that you have shared together – the sillier or smaller, the better. This is a nice idea to save money and also give a really thoughtful gift that shows how much you do care/how many memories you still treasure.

-Put together his “favourite things” basket for him/her – grab their favourite treats such as chocolate, snacks, drinks (a few beers, some wine) sports memorabilia or girly things (i.e. keychain of his favourite team or some jewellery.) Use a basket, bowl or box you already have in the house and wrap with clear cellophane with a red bow to give a DIY thrifty and thoughtful Valentine’s gift.

Recurring vicious cycle: Cleaning out my handbag every week in a swift 10 minutes, scrunching up and tossing all the receipts I have accumulated in a week (how is there still so many when I have been buying less lately? The laws of physics truly baffle me.) Putting all of my loose makeup and change back into their separate little pouches they’re supposed to call home. Untangling my headphones, winding them up neatly and putting them back in their little polkadot change purse.

Result – My handbag is now streamlined and organised, ready for the future challenges it will face! Hoorah!

Flash forward to another week though, and the same gloomy unorganised fate has been thrust upon my makeup, change and headphones, and receipts are piling up once again.

You know those little columns in US Weekly – “What’s in celebrities’ handbags?” I have always loved seeing the pretty (and some ugly) designer purses that belong to A, B C and D-listers that are featured in there every week. I also ashamedly like to check out what beauty products they are using, how much they cost, and where I can get my hands on some if they are cost-effective and have good ratings.

More fascinating yet is how they choose to organise all their beauty and other products, and if they too have random crap in there as well (a sign that they are actually in fact human as well.)

My favourite in the column (of course) has been Gwen Stefani’s purse (along with being my fave celeb and one of my favourite style inspiration of all time, Gwenny doesn’t disappoint with her LAMB designs and accessories included in her bag.)

Gwen’s handbag – stylish Lamb tote, (NEED!) cuteness galore Harajuku Girls accessories and cosmetic bags, perfume and even some of her kids’ toys (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, aka my childhood.)

Ciara’s Givenchy tote which has some pretty random stuff as well

Jennifer Morrison Anna Sui for Coach handbag (I have long been a lover for Anna Sui’s obscure hippyness)

Rachel Leigh Cook’s Liebeskind handbag – mainly receipts, lipsticks etc etc

Kyle Richard’s Valentino purse (I need more Valentino purses in my life.) Iphone, Spongebob Squarepants bandaids, beauty cream

Elisha Cuthbert’s Coach purse – sunnies, wallet, all the usual trappings in a purse

Inspired by these handbags, I organised my orange Tory Burch tote and pared down the random crap in there (also adding a few accessories that I tend to include in bigger bags as well.)

Here’s a little something I prepared earlier:

Tory Burch Orange Tote

Watermelon pouch, $1 AUD, Japanmart, holding car + house keys

Sunnies, $10 AUD, Ebay

Cotton On Purple Sunglasses Case, $5 AUD, Rubi

White and red polkadot pouch holding Iphone earphones, $1AUD, Ebay.COM

Pink owl pencil case, $3 AUD, Officeworks – holding the essentials I need to not look like a zombie from the Walking Dead – red lipstick (a cheapy $2 AUD from Giant Chemist but still just as good, if not a little dry; and Designer Brands concealer for my eye suitcases – $8 AUD)

Pink glitter heart coin pouch, $5 AUD, Cotton On

Hermes card holder, had for a while

Dolce & Gabbana wallet, had for a while

Barbie folding travel hair brush, $5 AUD from eons ago

Extra Strap for handbag if need be (but never used)

Forever New Ipad Case, $15 AUD, Forever New

Rilakkuma Iphone Case – so awesome, cute, soft and cuddly, but usually sadly gets lost in my handbag as it’s quite bulky around my iPhone! $15 AUD,

My shopping tote (Disney and eco-friendly!) A Christmas 2013 present from my brother who purchased it from Disneyland Parks in Paris!

Tie-dye… the maker of all things magical, hippy, splendorous, ethereal and the subject of one of my idols, Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)’s amazing song “Tie Dye On The Highway.”

Why do I love thee so?

Luckily for my tie-dye lovin’ ways; the print has been coming back again and again for decades, like every fashion known to man (even culottes are big again, right?)

Proof: every tie-dye hippy boho dress you see on the likes of Rachel Zoe, Vanessa Hudgens, Kate Hudson, and even Rodarte’s drool-worthy collection.

Heading out for a few drinks with the husband tonight, I needed a not-too-dressy outfit for the not-too-dressy pub we might frequent. I have a sick tendency to mix and match patterns all the time lately, so I couldn’t resist the urge to pair my basic striped long sleeve tee from Kmart for $10 AUD with a bright purple, yellow and green tie-dye splattered skirt (from Supre for $5 AUD.)

I grabbed my Nine West gold-sequin Ipad sleeve (which I always use as an oversized clutch and haven’t ever used as an Ipad sleeve… my thought processes for things sometimes aren’t all the way thought out.) Nine West Ipad Sleeve Cost = $20 AUD

These yellow lucite flats with a slight wedge are just the pop of colour to finish the outfit off in, and were a steal at $2 AUD from one of those Asian kiosks in the middle of the mall. (They have also lasted frequent use over 3 years – who would have thought?)

For you fashion history buffs, check out a few fun facts about Tie-dye on Peace, love and tie-dye by Emily Blake. (2009)

One standout fact = While tie dye of course gained popularity with the free-loving hippy movement of the 60s, it really started to take off when Halston started using it in his designs which garnered the likes of Janis Joplin. (Blake, 20090

If all Nicky Hilton has done lately is team this sleek corporate-up-top looking ensemble with a hippy tie-dye bottom (which works so perfectly,) that’s alright by me.

Although not a massive fan of the Reese, I am a fan of this chic tie dye ensemble she wore running errands.

Elle Fanning got ripped into two for this glorious Rodarte tie-dye creation she wore at the Met. I guess people sadly just don’t understand Rodarte?
